Gateway NV5214u Refurbished Review
I just got this refurbished laptop from TigerDirect and it runs great. It is the NV52 from Gateway which has a 15inch screen, an AMD Athlon X2 2.1ghz processor, 4gb of ram, 320gb of hard-drive space, and ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics. Got it for 9 + free shipping on TigerDirect and will probably sell out very soon. It is a decent mid-range laptop and can do most everyday things + more. It can run some newer games probably at medium or low settings, but it isn’t a gaming laptop. It has a very good HD webcam built-in which is very good in dark areas. Overall, the refurbished product was a great buy and I would trust TigerDirect with other refurbs in the future.

@RicardoPomalaza I’m just glad to hear it runs so well also i wanted to ask you does it come with the free windows 7 upgrade or will i have to buy it
you guys know that tigerdirect and circuitcity online are the same right?? i got mine same price free shipping. still waitting for mine on thursday…. ill let you guys know how it works. i got windows 7 ultimate 64 bits at my university for 35 dlls i hope the instalation goes smooth.. thanks for the video..
@dmelle09 Well, I think with some of the new NV series laptops, you get a free upgrade but that wasn’t the case with the refurbished unit. I had to go get a copy of Win7 but if you’re a college student, you can get it for 30+ bucks. Just make sure to download all the drivers again from the gateway website so everything runs smooth. Also, the touchpad is a little crazy but you’ll get used to it.
Just ordered this machine 2 days ago.
I was told it was a great deal by everyone I asked.
The Athlon X2 is a little bit outdated, but since computers are constantly advancing, it’s really hard to stay up to date on a budget.
Personally, I’ll be using this machine for HD videos and schoolwork.
So this should be more than enough for that.
But anyways, sweet review man.
How loud are the speakers, can you hear it over a… lets say a TV playing in the same room (not too loud, not to low, medium volume)
@CheezSalad I’d say not too loud, pretty low in my opinion. You have to have the volume bar up to 100% if you truly want to hear anything without using headphones. And even then, you solely depend on how loud the source of the sound is. For example, songs in your computer are fine but some low-quality youtube vids are hard to hear even in 100%. The speakers aren’t too bad either. If you’re watching TV in the same room, the NV52 sounds fairly decent, unless you have the TV on full volume.
Ive been looking at this laptop and im wondering on your opinion do you think this laptop could play at least Garry’s Mod? cuz ive been looking for a good gaming laptop but im on a budget.
@superboyT Well, can you wait to get $150 more? If so, you can get the NV52′s brother, the NV53, which is $529 in TigerDirect right now. It has a better graphics card (HD4200), comes with Win7 preinstalled and has a slightly faster processor. Same NV series just upgraded a little from the NV52. Go check out TigerDirect . com and look at their current deals. That laptop should play Garry’s mod decently. Hope I helped.
